LCI Volunteer Request & Information
Good evening Band Family!
The Volunteer Sign up Form for LCI is now live!
Please note that all volunteers must be approved by CCSD via the online application here.
For those that are new to LCI, we’d like to give you a better idea of how the day flows—this is a long list, so happy reading! If you already know how LCI works, please click here to go directly to the volunteer list. There is no way for us to fully list everything that happens on this day, so this is an overview. If you have questions, please email lci@wandobands.org.
8-1 (approximate start/end time): Wando Students rehearse at the stadium. During this time, the operations and set up teams for LCI will be setting up tents, tables, and chairs all around the campus, creating warm up locations for the visiting bands, setting up water stations, getting ice and water where it needs to go, setting up Directors’ and Judges hospitality, setting up ticket sales, vendor sales and concessions, and much more. Click here for a map of the campus (please note that this map is a draft, not yet completely finalized).
10-1 pm: Bands will begin to arrive on campus. During this time, we have volunteers helping with bus/truck parking to ensure we have space for all the schools. We also have our Band Hosts ready to take their group around the stadium. The first band will begin dressing at 12:30 pm. At this time, families of visiting bands will also begin to arrive. Ticket sales will begin at 1 pm, which is also when the stadium doors open.
1-2: Our multiple vendors will arrive and set up near concessions. The full list is included in the attached flyer. We do hope that you will support these vendors as much as possible throughout the day. (This time is tentative and may change slightly)
2-2:30: Bands are continuing to move through their schedule as we get our announcer and judges situated in the booth at the top of the stadium. More families of visiting schools will continue to arrive, and we will see an increase in ticket sales and vendor sales.
2:30-5: The first 3 classes of visiting bands will play for the judges. They each have exactly 15 minutes to get on the field, perform their show, and get off the field for the next group. This is the same set up Wando Bands will have at their competitions this year. This is the busiest part of the day for all of our volunteers. More families will arrive and need assistance parking, ticket sales will get even busier, directors/staff will go through Director’s Hospitality, students will need water on their way to/from the stadium, trash will need to be collected, more people will visit vendors, etc.
5:00-6:00: Dinner Break—there is a break in the performances, and this is when the bulk of spectators will visit our vendor area.
6:00-7:00: The last class of bands will perform.
7:00: Exhibition performance of “Ascension” by Wando High School.
7:15: Wando will leave the field, and drum majors from each school will come onto the field for the awards ceremony. Clean up will begin everywhere. In addition, visiting directors will begin receiving their critiques from the judges during this time. Once all Drum Majors are in place, the awards will begin.
7:30ish: Awards will end, and LCI will conclude. While we do have clean up volunteers, it requires the full effort of all our band family to get the campus back to normal after this event. Tents, tables and chairs must be returned, all water tables and supplies put away, trash collected, Signs collected, lanyards collected, spectators safely ushered out of the parking lots, vendor area cleaned, bus and spectator lots cleaned, and more. With the collective group, we can be finished with this much more quickly. Keep in mind that many of our volunteers will have been on site since before 8 am at this point and will be grateful for any additional support.
Our ultimate intention with LCI is to provide an amazing experience for our visiting schools, while also giving our students valuable time with highly esteemed judges Saturday morning. We cannot pull this day off without the support of all families. We can promise that LCI will be one of the most rewarding events that you take part in during your time with Wando Bands. It’s an opportunity to not only showcase our amazing band, but to also show our community support for our neighboring schools and programs. We do ask that at least one family member from every Wando family help out. Our goal is to have the volunteer list set by September 21 so that we can print nametags.
This event truly takes a village, and we value your support! Again, here is the LCI Volunteer Sign up. We will be adding to this list as we continue planning the event, so feel free to check back for other opportunities!
Please reach out to lci@wandobands.org with any questions! Thank you for your time!
